ARTICLE I
Name
The name of this organization shall be the TEXAS SOCIETY OF SPORTS
MEDICINE, INC. (hereinafter called the "Society").
ARTICLE II
Purpose
The purpose of this organization is to:
- improve the
medical and surgical care identification,
prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of Athletes sports
injuries;
- promote participation in sports;
- promote better relations among parents, faculty members, coaches, trainers
and team physicians
ARTICLE III
Membership
Classes of Membership

Physician. A physician shall be defined as a graduate of an
approved medical or osteopathic school.

Athletic Trainer. An athletic trainer shall be certified
and have a bachelor's degree in athletic training, health, physical
education or exercise science.
- Physician Assistant Member. A physician's assistant shall
be defined as a graduate of an accredited physician's assistant training
program.
Athletic Trainer Members and Physician Assistant Members shall pay
reduced annual membership dues compared to the full annual membership
dues paid by Physician Members. Members not in good standing shall
not be entitled to vote, hold office, or enjoy other privileges or powers
of membership. Good standing may be resumed upon the payment of
all arrears plus dues in advance for one year provided, however, the
lapsed period is not greater than one year; otherwise a new application
must be submitted for membership.
ARTICLE IV
Officers

The officers of this society shall be a President, the Immediate
Past President, and a Secretary-Treasurer. All officers shall
be Physician Members.

The President shall preside over all meetings, and shall
serve from the close of one annual meeting to the close of
the next succeeding annual meeting or until his successor
is elected. The President shall prepare the program
for the next annual meeting.

The Immediate Past President shall become President in case
of death or resignation of the President. The Immediate
Past President shall preside at meetings when the President
is not present.

The Secretary-Treasurer shall serve as Secretary to the
society and shall collect all money due the society and shall
make disbursements as directed by the society.
ARTICLE V
Election of Officers
- Election of officers shall be held at the close of each annual
meeting. Members present and voting shall constitute a quorum.
ARTICLE VI
Committees
- Committees may be appointed by the President or may be directed
by the membership.
ARTICLE VII
Meetings
- There shall be one meeting annually. This meeting shall
be held within the dates and in the same city as the annual meeting
of the Texas Orthopaedic Association. The meeting place is
to be assigned in cooperation with the annual meeting of the Texas
Orthopaedic Association.
ARTICLE VIII
Affiliation
- The Texas Society of Sports Medicine shall be a related organization
of the Texas Orthopaedic Association, and any member or guest of
the Texas Orthopaedic Association may attend any annual meeting
of this society at will.
ARTICLE IX
Amendments
- The Bylaws can be amended by a two-thirds vote of the members
of the society who are present and voting at the annual meeting.
